My Easy Chili Recipe

Disclosure: I wasn't compensated for this post.  This is a recipe given to my by my grandma that she made years before I was born.  I do not claim to be the creator of this recipe.  I'm just sharing old family recipes with my readers.

My Easy Chili Recipe

Are you looking for a quick, easy, and cheap meal?  This is one for you!  My oldest daughter requests this chili about twice a month.  My grandma has been making this since my mom was a kid, maybe even before that.  I have made slight changes to match our taste.

Ingredients:

1 pound ground beef, chicken, or turkey
2 cloves minced garlic
one small yellow onion, small diced
1 teaspoon oil
black pepper to taste
2-3 cans kidney beans or pinto beans, drained (I use low sodium)
2 small cans tomato sauce or one large can diced tomatoes (I use no salt added)
2 teaspoons chili powder
1 teaspoon cumin

Put your oil in your pot.  Add onion and garlic to pot.  Cook at on medium heat stirring to make sure not to overcook garlic.  When onion looks glossy add ground meat and black pepper to taste.  You can add salt also ( I don't add extra salt).  Cook until brown and drain any fat.

To the meat mixture add your beans, tomato sauce (or tomatoes), chili powder, and cumin.  I add about 1/2 cup of water.  Depending on how long you plan to simmer and your desired thickness you can add more or less.  Once I add everything to the pot I let it come to a boil and then lower it to low and put the lid on.

That is it!  Very easy!  You can eat it right away or let it simmer for a few hours depending on the time you have.

My family likes to top our chili with cheese, sour cream, and green onion.  We also like Frito's or cornbread to go with it.

Enjoy!!!
