This is an attractive and economical way to update a counter top in comparison to replacing it with stone. Although the faux granite technique is easy to learn, it takes considerable time and effort to apply. The surface I coated with my own blend of latex paint and water-soluble polyurethane a few years ago has scratched or peeled in several places. I'm not sure I'd recommend a treatment like this for areas that get a lot of rough use, but it's certainly cheaper than installing a new counter top and may be worth a try.
